React Native development for iOS and Android
I build mobile apps with React Native and Expo for teams across Europe, the UK and the US, either inside your team as a remote contractor or as a full project from first commit to the App Store and Google Play. Most of my recent apps are for banking, sports media and consumer products, where security, release quality and polish matter.
What I can help with
- New apps. Expo, Expo Router and a project structure your team can keep building on.
- Bringing a web product to mobile. Porting flows from an existing web app with the same business rules, so both products behave identically.
- Upgrades. Expo SDK and React Native upgrades, the New Architecture, and replacing abandoned libraries.
- Native modules. Custom Expo modules when an app needs something the ecosystem doesn't offer, such as background uploads or native sharing.
- Design systems. Shared component libraries that match your Figma and theme several apps at once.
What every app gets
- Over-the-air updates. Bug fixes and small changes reach users in minutes instead of waiting for store review. Updates are signed, checked against the native build they target and tested on a preview channel first.
- Calm store releases. Automated EAS builds for iOS and Android, an approval step before production, and store requirements such as privacy manifests and in-app account deletion handled up front.
- Secure login. Two-factor authentication, including push-based approval, biometric unlock with Face ID or fingerprint, and tokens kept in secure storage.
- Privacy on the device. Sensitive screens hidden from screenshots and the app switcher, only the permissions the app really needs, and downloaded files cleared on logout.
- Reliability. Clear offline states, safe retries that never repeat a payment or a form submission, and recovery from errors instead of a blank screen.
- Push notifications and deep links. Notifications and links that open exactly the right screen, plus universal links and magic-link login.
- Native features. Camera and document upload, file sharing, maps and location, in-app payments with Stripe, and analytics.
- Smooth UI. Fluid animations with Reanimated, fast virtualised lists and layouts that match the design on every screen size.
- Accessibility. Screen reader labels and roles, announced errors, and support for larger system font sizes.
- Crash reporting. Sentry mapped to the exact release, so every crash points to the right line of code.
Tools I use
React Native, Expo and EAS, Expo Router, Reanimated, TanStack Query, Zustand, React Hook Form with Zod, i18next, Sentry and TypeScript throughout. For testing I use Jest and Playwright.
Questions
Do you work on existing React Native apps?
Yes. A lot of my work is joining an app that is already live: adding features, upgrading Expo and React Native, fixing release pipelines and improving stability.
Expo or bare React Native?
I default to Expo with development builds and EAS, because it makes upgrades and releases much easier. When an app needs custom native code, I write Expo native modules instead of leaving the managed workflow.
Can you take an app all the way to the App Store and Google Play?
Yes. I set up store identities, signing, privacy manifests, build workflows and over-the-air updates, and I handle store review requirements such as in-app account deletion.
Can bugs be fixed without a new App Store release?
Usually, yes. With over-the-air updates through Expo, changes to the JavaScript part of the app reach users within minutes. Changes to native code still need a store release, and I set up checks so an update never reaches an app build it isn't compatible with.
How do you keep a mobile app secure?
Two-factor and biometric login, tokens in secure storage, sensitive screens hidden from screenshots and the app switcher, minimal permissions, and no personal data in logs or crash reports.
Can you share code between our web app and the mobile app?
Often, yes. In a monorepo the API layer, validation, translations and design tokens can be shared, while each platform keeps its own UI.
Which time zone do you work in?
Central European Time. I overlap fully with teams in Europe and the UK and have a few hours of overlap with the US East Coast.
